French, German, Italian, Spanish Portuguese versions   Use Alta Vista's remarkable translation facility.  Open the Alta Vista search engine [http://www. altavista.com], preferably in a second window, so that you have the current window open simultaneously.   Carry out a search on the phrase "Havergal Brian" [including the quotation marks].  Alta Vista will return you a reference for most of the pages of the site - as well as all other references, of course.  Select the page you want and click translate
Alternatively, the  Systrans page offers the same facility.
The Havergal Brian Society cannot be responsible for any difficulties that users may experience with Alta Vista and Systrans.

Searches  In addition to the Music on the Web search facility which is provided by Music On The Web, there is a further way of searching the Brian website.  The Alta Vista Discovery package enables you to index not only your own PC (itself a most useful facility) offering internet-style search facilities, but you can also do this for websites - for example the Brian website.  This free software is strongly recommended by the Webmaster as a way of searching the Brian site.  The instructions on the Alta Vista pages are very clear.  Start on the Alta Vista homepage.

Browsers  This site is best viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later, or Netscape.

Music excerpts  To hear the music clips, you need a player:  RealPlayer can be downloaded free.

Resolution  This website is intended to be used at  a minimum resolution of 1024×768 although 1280x960 is optimal.  It has been tested to work properly at 800×600 or better although you will need to use the scroll bars to see the whole page.

Fonts  This website uses Georgia font for the text and Lucida Sans for the headings.  These should be free with Microsoft Windows.  If you don't have these fonts on your machine, the pages will be displayed in whatever fonts you have set up as defaults (Times and Arial respectively if you haven't changed your defaults).  It is worth changing at least your serif font default to Georgia:  this is far more readable (and attractive) than the onscreen version of Times.

Please e-mail the  Webmaster to report faults or broken links, or just to pass on comments.
